THE EYE IS TOO ELONGATED. THE IMAGE FORMS IN FRONT OF THE RETINA. THINGS ARE CLEAR CLOSE UP, BUT BLURRED IN THE DISTANCE.
THE DISORDER A myopic eye is too elongated in shape or its cornea is too curved - the opposite of a hypermetropic eye. Consequently, the convergence point of rays of light emitted by an object is located in front of the retina. The retina therefore receives confused images. Although near sight is hardly affected, a myopic individual has difficulties distinguishing objects in the distance. The disorder varies greatly according to the type of myopia (low, medium or high). CORRECTION The laser focuses on the central part of the cornea, flattening its curve. |
